“It was there, the aroma of him, in the downtown air. As strong as I smelled it on the train when he was right there beside me. It was him. It had to be.” I fiddled with the glass of water the waitress had brought. “But of course he’s gone, so maybe it wasn’t him. He’s back at Barbour’s, most likely, far, far away.” I slumped against the padded seat and grasped my head in my hands. “Eight days! In eight days I’m getting married, and I’m imagining the scent of someone who doesn’t even love me. What’s wrong with me?”
